Results Round Up
There have been many results to catch up on from the Brecon 10, Gerald Codd Trophy Match, Celtic Games, Olympics, West Wales U20, Welsh Masters League and Neath Harriers Open Meeting incorporating the Welsh 3000m Championships. Read on for more details.
Sunday 5th August saw a clean sweep for the club of the top 3 places in the Brecon 10 Mile Road Race. In 1st place was Dewi Griffiths in 53.09, 2nd Simon Jones in 54.44 and 3rd Martin Rees in 56.26, very many congratulations on the great result! Click here for the full results.
Wednesday 8th August saw all our top Masters athletes in action at home in Swansea, there were many unbelievable performances in what was an excellent evening of athletics action with many memorable performances, and we look forward to hosting another masters league in 2013. Friday 10th August was David Greenes 2nd 4th place finish in the Olympics! This time in the 4 x 400m relay final, just missing out on a medal by 0.13 of a second! David now has a few Diamond League races to finish off his season and no doubt will be back with a vengeance to try and medal in the World Athletics Championships in Moscow RUSSIA 2013 and Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014 and the very best of luck to him. Saturday 11th August saw 10 club athletes representing the Welsh National team in the U16 & U18 Celtic Games at Aberdeen. All had great performances in what were some very windy conditions, U16G Hannah Brier (GOLD 12.38 100m & Relay), U16G Stephanie Nicholas (SILVER Shot 11.19m), U16G Olivia Gwynn (1500m 4.53.75), U16G Lara Phillipart (SILVER 3000m 10.34.84), U16G Catrin Jones (GOLD High Jump 1.65m), U16B Jac Hopkins (BRONZE 1500m 4.06.09), U16B Michael Wilson (SILVER 100m Hurdles 14.10 & Relay), U16B Miles Keller-Jenkins (GOLD High Jump 1.85m), U18B Jonathan Tobin (SILVER 1500m 5.05.66) U18B Stephen Scarfi (SILVER Pole Vault 4.36m). Sunday 12th August saw the West Wales U20 composite team finish 2nd on the day and in the league to qualify for the UK National finals in September. Very many congratulations to all those athletes who represented the team this year and for once again progressing all the way to the UK National finals. The main highlight form a Swansea perspective was a treble for Toni Wells with 3 victories including 2 personal bests; Hammer 54.15m, Discus a PB in 38.28m and Shot in a PB of 11.65m, she was also 4th in Javelin with yet another PB of 27.82m!! Sunday 12th August was the U11, U13 & U15 Gerald Codd Trophy Match in Haverfordwest, the team was hit hard by holidays, however the team performed excellently to finish 2nd by just 14 points to up and coming super club Pembrokeshire Harriers on their home turf. All holidays have been canceled for the juniors in the club as they aim to try and reverse the result this Sunday in Brecon for the Welsh Cup Final! There were many great performances in Haverfordwest with lots of personal bests. Individually the main highlight was an all time club best in the U11B 800m set by Ben Petherbridge in a time of 2.39.9 well done Ben! Click here for the full results.
Wednesday 15th August was the Neath Harriers Open Meeting incorporating the Welsh 3000m Championships. In what were exceptionally windy conditions there was a big turnout and it was a great match for the club with another club record being broken; U15G Emily Cockrill set a new record in the Javelin with a throw of 33.05m, very many congratulations to Emily who is doing very well in a number of throws events this year. There were also medals won in the 3000m, there was a one two in the Senior Men with Guy Smith winning GOLD in a personal best time (9.03.30) and a SILVER for Marc Hobbs with (9.06.20) and Lara Philippart won GOLD in the U17W with a time of 10.52.98, very many congratulations to all 3.
