Results Round Up From Cardiff & Elba and last chance for tickets to the junior awards night

Saturday 12th October saw round 1 of 5 in the Gwent cross country league at Cardiff, the race also incorporated the British Cross Challenge round 1, as well as the West Wales selection race for the Welsh Inter Regional Cross Country Championships at Brecon.

It was great to see so many of our endurance runners out representing the club in this great inter club league for runners of all abilities, for the first time there were also several of mother/father and daughter/son running across the age groups, having a family day out at the fixture! Thanks to all the team managers efforts, as well as to everyone who helped Brian Fox with tent assembly and disassembly duties!

Congratulations to all those that received a selection letter to represent West Wales on Saturday 16th November at Brecon, in the Welsh Inter Regional cross country championships V North V South V East Wales. Please ensure you return by post your selection letter no later than 23rd October to; Rob Campion (WW Team Coordinator) to the address on the selection letter. If you are not available inform Rob via email at as soon as possible, to allow selectors enough time to call in reserves. If you have misplaced your letter, or wish to be considered for selection if you missed out today, contact Rob via his email address. To represent West Wales, athletes must have one of the following qualifications:
A: - Birth; the athlete having been born in West Wales (Dyfed or West Glamorgan).
B: - Residence; a minimum of 9 months continuous residence in West Wales immediately prior to this event.
With five seniors and four juniors to score for the league teams, our A teams were:
Senior Men: 13th Jonathan Hopkins; 26th Conor Smith; 27th Guy Smith; 140th Daniel Morgan and 189th Patrick Tudor. The team are top of division 2, and their aim must be to be promoted back into division 1, after last years relegation out of the top division for the first time since the leagues inception in the 1960s.
Senior Women: 15th Olivia Gwynn; 19th Alaw Beynon-Thomas; 38th Abigayle Goodrick-Latham; 39th Llinos Jones and 40th Rachel Davies, the team are in an excellent 2nd place in division 1.
U20M: 8th Dominic Smith; 16th Elliot Lawrence; 32nd Nathan Jones and 38th Dafyd Jay. The team are on top of the league table, well done boys!
U20W & U17W: was a combined race with separate league tables, 25th Ashleigh Willis; 57th Bronwen Stratton-Thomas; 69th Darcie Bass and 106th Mirain Lloyd, the U20W are 7th and U17W 5th in their league tables.
U17M: Iwan White and 93rd Rhys Nicholas , were an incomplete team, and now sit 19th in the league.
U15B: 21st Charlie Harris; 27th Aled Tumelty; 44th Tom Attwood and 54th Matthew Lewis, the team are in an excellent 2nd in the league.
U15G: 46th Mai Davies and 65th Carys Lewis-Hopkins, were an incomplete team and are 16th in the league.
U13B: 28th Oliver Patterson; 49th Steffan Higgins; 72nd Saul Otteson and 80th Ethan Jones, the team are 10th in the league.
U13G: 15th Kaitlyn Jones; 43rd Sophie Hartley-Green; 61st Chloe Lewis and 74th Lili Wade, the team are 7th in the league.
U11B: 29th Tyler Davies; 63rd Panagiotis Patirakakos; 88th Gabriel Gardner-Davies and 89th Marc Chatfield, the team are 16th in the league.
U11G: the main individual highlight of the day came in this race with a win for Libby Hale!!!, 6th Chloe Hartley-Green; 11th Millie Pierce and 65th Eden Williams, the team are well placed in 2nd in the league.
Monday 14th October was the Afan Nedd Tawe Secondary Schools & Colleges cross country development race at the Elba, Gowerton. After horrific weather conditions this was the fourth attempt to hold the event and well done to all the schools who manged to re arrange their diaries to attend. Unfortunately the three postponements had a detrimental effect on numbers running this year. Thanks to all the PE staff who judged on the finish funnel, and to volunteers Kneath & Lara Phillipart, Alyson Heard and Nathan Jones, highlights included;
Year 7 Girls: a win for Ava Davies (Olchfa) well done Ava! 3rd Chloe Lewis (Bishopston).
Year 7 Boys: 2nd Oliver Patterson (Olchfa); 3rd Oliver Gillett (YG Gwyr) and 6th Sam Morgan (Morriston).
Year 8 & 9 Girls: a win for Kaitlyn Jones (Bryn Tawe) well done Kaitlyn! 2nd Sophie Hartley-Green (Bishopston); 5th Carys Lewis-Hopkins (Gowerton) and 6th Lili Wade (Bryn Tawe).
Year 8 & 9 Boys: a win for Tesfaye Shugi (Bishop Vaughan) well done Tesfaye! 2nd Dafydd King (YG Gwyr); 3rd Matthew Lewis (Bishopston) and 5th Joshua Pritchard (YG Gwyr).
Year 10 to 14 Girls: no club runners.
Year 10 to 14 Boys: 2nd Aled Tumelty (YG Gwyr); 3rd William Arnold (YG Gwyr) and 50th Carwyn Harry (Morriston).

With almost 100 tickets already sold, this week is your final chance to buy tickets for our Junior Awards Evening will be held at 7.30pm on Saturday 26th October at Swansea Dockers Club, SA1 8BT. This event is held to recognise the commitment of our young athletes to the club. Invitations have now been sent by email to all athletes in the U11 - U15 age groups who have competed for the club on a regular basis throughout the year. If you have not received an invitation please email Payment of £5.50 per person can be made at the club cafe by the closing date of Thursday 17th October.
