Results Round Up From Cardiff, Ghent, Pontypool & The Gnoll

The weekend of Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th February saw the Welsh Junior Indoor Athletics Championships held at Cardiff. There were over 60 juniors from the club participating which was great to see, against the best athletes from throughout Wales. There were lots of top performances with many personal bests set on the way. Highlights included medal winning performances from:

Saturday 10th February in Ghent BELGUIM, SW Laura Maddox runs (54.89) over 400m; one of the magnificent seven SM Jonathan Hopkins sets a lifetime best for 3000m (8.09.42) and just behind is SM Jonathan Tobin in (8.13.89).
Sunday 11th February was round 4 of 5 in the cross country league for all age groups at very muddy, hilly and challenging course at Pontypool. With 5 to score in our seniors and 4 in the juniors, our scorers were:
In the Senior Mens race there was a fine win for Phil Matthews crossing the line with a 25 second advantage over his nearest rival, he was followed home by 23rd Matthew Richards; 37th Ifan Lloyd; 55th Alex Price and 126th Steve Smith. The team slip down to 3rd in the league.
The Senior Ladies had just the 2 runners with Helen Marshall in 11th and Diane Brownhill in 53rd. With so few running they also slip to 7th in the league.
In the U17M, U20W & U20W the club had no representatives.
U17W Bronwen Stratton-Thomas had a superb run for 2nd, and not too far behind having another strong run was 5th Beth Thomas. Despite having just half a team they are very well placed in 2nd in the league.
In the U15B we had the trio of Iwan White in 14th followed home by 33rd Logan Lambe and 40th Miles Hill. The team are 7th in the league.
U15G also had a trio of 16th Caitlin Gwyther, 31st Mirain Lloyd and 33rd Eve Bevan, with the team being 8th overall in the league to date.
U13B just had a full team of 4 scorers with first home for the club 15th Aled Tumelty ably supported by 49th Dafydd King, 51st Joseff Lewis and 59th Noah Russell. The team are 10th in the league.
U13G had 2 athletes break into the top 10 with Tiffany Rees in 9th and Ella Davies in 10th followed across the line by 19th Mai Davies and 43rd Abbie Hall. The team are doing very well in the league placed in 3rd a podium position.
U11B had a superb turnout of 13 runners! With our scoring 4 being 22nd Callum Jones; 62nd Oliver Patterson; 64th Evan Lewis and 93rd Saul Ottesson. The team continue to climb the table and are now up to 12th.
The U11G like the U13G had 2 runners break into the top 10 with Carys Hennessey in 7th and 8th Kaitlyn Jones both having very strong runs, 41st Neve Dodd and 47th Matilda Quick completed the scoring 4 and the team are now 6th in the league.

Wednesday 14th February was the Apollo Teaching Services Afan Nedd Tawe Secondary Schools & Colleges Cross Country Trial in a very wet and windy Gnoll Country Park. Over 300 school children finished the races over a hilly a slippery underfoot course. Highlights included medal winning performances from Swansea Harriers athletes:
Year 7 Girls GOLD Mai Davies (Gwyr).
Year 7 Boys no medalists, but Morgan Willis (Olchfa) was very close in 4th.
Year 8 & 9 Girls; GOLD Tiffany Rees (Olchfa) and SILVER Ella Davies (Gwyr).
Year 8 & 9 Boys: GOLD Charlie Holland (Bishopston) and BRONZE Iwan White (Bishopston).
Year 10 to 14 Girls: GOLD Ashleigh Willis (Olchfa), SILVER Darcie Bass (Penyrheol) and BRONZE Bronwen Stratton-Thomas (Olchfa).
Year 10 to 14 Boys: GOLD Dominic Smith (Olchfa).
