Swansea Bay 10K

Six U17 Swansea Harriers Athletes represented Wales in the UK School Games in Bath on 30th & 31st August. James Ledger (Bishopvaughan, ambulant 200m), Ben Davies (Pontardulais, High Jump), Louise Bashford (Olchfa, ambulant 200m), Catrin Stone (Gwyr, 80m hurdles), Sarah Evans (Pontardulais, 4 x 100m) and Toni Wells (Cwmcarn, Hammer). All athletes made a massive contribution the the Welsh team finishing in 2nd place out of the 12 regions. Medals were won by James (Bronze), Louise (Silver) and Sarah (Silver). The UK School Games is a multi-sport event for the UK’s elite young athletes . Nine Olympic sports are combined into a four-day Games environment designed to replicate the feel of major event such as the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

Thursday 25th September 2008 at 7.30pm. Venue - Cafe at King George V Playing Fields (opposite indoor athletics track). Business will include Annual Report, Financial Report and election of officers. Only Members and Life Members are eligible to vote. Welcome to the Swansea Harriers Athletics Club website. Anyone can join Swansea Harriers it is not just a club for the elite. Anyone who is interested and is prepared to compete for the club when selected is welcome as a member. Every effort is made to ensure that new members are quickly integrated into the club. Emphasis is placed on enjoyment and participation.

Swansea Bay 10K 5K 3K & 1K Races:
On Sunday 21st September is the annual Swansea Bay 10K, 5K, 3K &1K races. Set along the stunning setting of Swansea Bay, this annual road race was voted the third best race in the UK in 2006 (the London Marathon was first). The day isn't just for adults there are various fun races throughout the morning to suit different ages and abilities. Juniors can choose from 1k, 3k and 5k races.
With its picturesque, fast, flat surface, entries have been closed well before the event in previous years, so, as entries are again limited for this years race, you will need to get your entries in early. Whether you are a novice or serious runner, this route is ideal. Fun runners can enjoy the atmosphere and scenery on the flat surface, whilst the more competitive runners can aim to get a fast time in, if the weather conditions are right! With a prize fund worth over £7000, a free t-shirt for the first 3,500 entries, along with a medal, goody bags and a certificate for all runners, you will also receive a free water bottle at 5k and at the end of the race.

3K Race - 9yrs-14yrs
11.30am, Starts at Blackpill Lido
1K Race - 8yrs-11yrs
11.15am, Starts at Sketty Lane Car Park
1K Race - 7yrs and Under
11.00am, Starts at Sketty Lane car Park
FREE buses will be available from the westbound lay by on the Mumbles end of St Helens Rugby Ground, to transport junior competitors to their starting point if required. Buses will leave no later than 30 minutes before the start of the races.

U11 to U20 Team Photos:
An evening for team photos will be held on Tuesday 30th September in recognition of the junior teams successes this season. Only athletes that competed for the club in any League (LAL, WJL or NYAL), Cup or Championships (WW or WA) this season are invited to attend. Athletes must wear club vests or crop tops and black tracksuit trousers, running knickers, lycra or ordinary shorts. Below is a timetable of team photos that will be taken in the Indoor Athletics Track. There will be a buffet in the club café after the photos have been taken.
