Club Off Track Championships

This year we are relaunching our Club Championship for off track runners. Each month from May through to the end of September, participation in key races will score age graded points in championship league table. These range from 3k/5k/10k and HM, not forgetting training points and a monthly park run takeover.
The event is open to members of Swansea Harriers who intend taking part in the fixtures identified in the link. To help level the playing field, results of masters athletes are age-grade to give an adjusted comparable time. Rules include points for Top 5 Harrier finishers, participation, age graded placings and training with our groups. Hopefully this will lead to a return to greater participation and a bit of good old in-club competition.

After fixture one there were some superb result at the Cardiff 5k, and great turnout from Swansea Harriers.

A very competitive start, with some incredible PBs out there, not just from those at the faster elite end, but from our endurance groups too.
Now the fun starts when considering age graded performances! For those unfamiliar, for in-club competition purposes we are able to age-grade times to give us the ability to compare times of the Masters athletes ( and youth too) to give a better comparison to the performances. For purists out there , there is a link to the full un-doctored results at  https://results.sporthive.com/events/6926486474351149312/races/481943/team/6927175378169193472

In the ladies competition, Rachel Davies marked a return to road racing in 1st place (17:41), Helen-Marie Davies in 2nd (age-graded 18:22) and Llinos Jones in 3rd with an age-graded time of 18:55.In the Mens, a fast field of seniors, with Jonathan Butler led the way in 14:43.

However, a stand-out performance from Alan Davies (debuting for Swansea) who at 69 years of age takes the lead age graded time of 13:35!!!
Jonathan Butler maintained overall top points score as the highest Harrier finisher, 2nd place Finley Hines (U20) with a fantastic run (14:48) and Ben Williams (V35) taking 3rd with 15:15 age graded.

Special mentions to Steven Taylor (PB-ing again with 16:48), Danny Otteson (16:27) and Paul Llewelyn (19:02) all age-graded sub 16 minutes, and also Tom Bacon who knocked a whopping whole minute off his PB with 17:58. Hats of Alex Simpson too, making his debut at the 5k distance with an instant sub-20 – narrowly missing out on age-graded points, but doing well  with an adjusted time of 19:14.

Anyone missing is purely a membership issue, and sometimes there can be delay.  We want to be fair to everyone, but let us know if you were expecting to see your name in the results, and they will be updated.

Any other stand-out stories, let us know!

Don’t forget, training points count from this week. Next fixture, Caerphilly 10k (welsh Champs) 15/5/22, and the Cardiff Bay 10k on 22/5/22. Still open I believe! Get on it, and keep up the good work!
