Volunteers Needed Please
Swansea Harriers is run entirely by volunteers and the club would cease to function without their continued support. If the club is to continue to thrive, survive and offer effective coaching ratios it is vital that more volunteers are forthcoming to support our existing volunteer team please. At the time of posting the club is in real need and is looking for volunteers in the areas listed below, UK Athletics Track & Field Coaching Assistant, UK Athletics Level 1 Officials Field Judge and U12 (school years 5 & 6) & U14 (school years 7 & 8) Boys team managers. We already have plenty of other experienced volunteers in these areas to support and mentor you through the season so you won’t be in a the deep end.
Coaching: assisting the clubs qualified coaches specifically in the junior groups through attending a UK Athletics Coaching Assistant qualification, which the club will support you through, the next of which is conveniently at home in Swansea on Sunday 1st March 2026. The club will refund the course cost in full for volunteers who attend post course completion. Team Managing: with the outdoor track & field leagues season commencing in April there are two vacancies in the U12B (School Years 5 & 6) and U14B (School Years 7 & 8) for team managers in our junior age groups. Team Managers are an essential cornerstone of the club and athletes, without them the athletes are unable to take part in the leagues. If you would consider stepping up for just the 2026 summer season please get in touch. As for our coaches and officials there are plenty of experienced people available to support and mentor you through the season within the club. We are looking for someone who is organised, works well in a team, has excellent communication skills, has a positive empathetic attitude with an ability to build relationships with a range of people (parents, athletes, coaches, officials & competition providers). Officials: Swansea Harriers has a large team of very dedicated volunteer officials that help the club fulfil its commitments in all its league, cup and championship fixtures on and off track throughout the year. As for our coaches the club refund in full post course completion anyone that attends UK Athletics Officiating qualification. Sunday 22nd February 10am to 3pm there is a virtual UK Athletics Field Judges qualification from 10am to 3pm. This course is ideal for anyone interested in officiating track and field events, whether you’re new to officiating or looking to build confidence across a range of disciplines. You’ll gain experience officiating:
• Shot Put (including seated throws for disabled athletes)
• Discus (including seated throws for disabled athletes)
• Hammer
• Javelin (including seated throws for disabled athletes)
• Club Throw
• High Jump
• Long Jump
• Triple Jump
• Pole Vault
By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:
• Work confidently from a duty sheet
• Identify all field events and understand the key officiating roles involved
• Recognise and apply essential health and safety requirements in field officiating
• Correctly apply competition rules across field events
• Accurately complete and present results cards

Cafe Helpers: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday 4.45pm to 6.45pm if anyone can help once a week, ticking squad registers, collecting training fees, selling club kit, tea, coffee and refreshments to raise funds for the club. You just need to be able to work an IZettle and I Pad and make a fairly reasonable tea or coffee.
