Volunteers Needed Please
Club training resumed this week and there was a massive intake of new juniors and a few seniors. Swansea Harriers is run entirely by volunteers and the club would cease to function without their continued support. If the club is to continue to thrive, survive and offer effective coaching ratios it is vital that more volunteers are forthcoming to support our existing volunteer team please. At the time of posting the club is looking for volunteers in the four areas listed below. We already have experienced helpers in these areas to support and mentor you through the season so you won’t be in a the deep end.
Coaching: assisting the clubs qualified coaches specifically in the junior groups, undertaking easy tasks such as raking sand pits, putting up fallen hurdles etc, with a medium to long term view for those with an interest of attending a UK Athletics coaching qualification, which the club will support you through.
Team Managing: It’s the Under 11 Boys team that are missing out again, with team managers in place for all other age groups and genders from U11, U13, U15, U17, U20, Seniors & Masters for cross country, we haven’t been able to find anyone to team manage the U11B! There are five league fixtures and a couple of championships to sort teams for. Cross Country team managing is easy as there are no selection decisions to make, or limit on entry numbers, you just need to be an organised individual to enter the team before hand of all those that are able to run, the first 4 or 5 athletes to cross the finish line score for the team depending on the rules of each match. On the day meet the boys a hour or so before hand, walk the course with them, then get them to the start line and then just hope most of them make it to the finish!
Cafe Helpers: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday 4.45pm to 6.45pm if anyone can help once a week, ticking squad registers, collecting training fees, selling club kit, tea, coffee and refreshments to raise funds for the club. You just need to be able to work an IZettle and I Pad and make a reasonable tea or coffee.
Officials: Swansea Harriers has a large team of very dedicated volunteer officials that help the club fulfil its commitments in all its league, cup and championship fixtures on and off track throughout the year. Rob Beresford is the clubs officials coordinator and is the main point of contact for any new volunteer officials and all our existing officials. If you are willing and available to help at any of the clubs fixtures as a track judge, timekeeper or field judge for any home or away fixtures or any administrative role, please contact Rob at [email protected] As for our coaches the club will support anyone that would consider attending a UK Athletics Officiating qualification.
Please speak to any of our coaches or cafe team on a club night if you’d be willing to help us out in any of the areas above and they will explain how you can get stuck in helping the rest of our volunteers out!
