Results Round Up

The bank holiday weekend was a busy one for our athletes, we have results to round up for you from Yate, Manchester, Carmarthen, Cardiff, Yeovil, Dagenham & Chepstow…..

Sunday 22nd August belated well done to U17W Ella Davies who ran a 4.57.98 for 1500m at Yeovil.

Saturday 28th August was the fourth and final round of the Senior Men & Women National Athletics League at Yate. We fielded a depleted team due to unavailability and clashes with other events. Nevertheless those that were available did a magnificent job to finish 3rd on the day, many covering several events each. The team points were, 1st Bristol & West 343.5; 2nd Yate & District 287.5; 3rd Swansea Harriers 221; 4th Cardiff AAC 197.5 & 5th Yeovil Olympiads 78.5. The athletes individual performances will be converted into points over the coming days to complete the league table. The team managers and athletes now know how the new league format functions ready for 2022 when promotion and relegation is reimplemented as it was pre Covid 19. Thanks to all those athletes at Yate that represented the club as well as our officials and team managers:

Men: Lemarl Freckleton 11.16 100m & 22.29 200m; Thomas Payne 11.05 100m; Nathan Phillips 57.14 400m & 64.84 400m Hurdles; Brychan Price Davies 1.57.87 800m & 4.21.14 1500m; Marc Hobbs 15.47.13 5000m; Geraint Williams 15.52.24;  Daniel Morgan 11.17.19 3000m Steeplechase; Ryan Price 5.63m Long Jump & 12.11m Triple Jump for 1st place!; Patrick Swan did the double wining both the Shot in 16.60m Shot & Discus in 42.53m & also threw the Javelin 39.25m! Daniel Cork 16.30m Shot; David Jones 11.25m Hammer; Connor Swan 52.54m Javelin for 1st place!;

The weekend of Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th August at Manchester was the England Athletics U15 & U17 combined events championships incorporating the European Combined Events Heptathlon Challenge, where the club had three members in action. SW Lauryn Davey had a great weekend placing 4th with 5180 points from a 14.77 100m Hurdles, 11.52m Shot, 25.90 200m, 5.55m Long Jump, 35.28m Javelin & 2.20.12 800m. SW Jodi Beynon completed five of her seven events to record 3481 points with a 15.32 100m Hurdles, 1.56m High Jump, 11.55m Shot, 26.75 200m, 5.25m Long Jump, we are sure she’ll come back even stronger next time. U15G Matilda Quick placed 12th in her pentathlon with 2869 points from a 12.43 75m Hurdles, 4.58m Long Jump, 16.16m Javelin, 10.54m Shot, 1.50m High Jump & 2.57.40 800m.

Saturday 28th August at Carmarthen was the U13 & U15 Welsh Inter Regional Pilot Event for West V South V East Wales. All those Swansea Harriers participating were representing West Wales, in hot and sunny weather there was another hatful of personal bests set by the juniors, helping West Wales to a comfortable win. Highlights included top three placings for:

U15B Lewie Jones 12.73m Shot 1st & 50.17m Javelin 1st also a championship record well done Lewie!; Nathaniel Osborne 11.63m Shot 2nd; Oliver Philpott 2.85m Pole Vault 1st; Charlie Shuall Pole Vault 2.50m 3rd and Jenson Morris 49.49 4 x 100m 2nd.

Sunday 29th August SM Joseph Brier runs a lifetime best and a very, very quick time of 21.13 for 200m at Dagenham, and his sister Hannah Brier also ran a quick 100m of 11.76, well done both.

Sunday 29th August was the Welsh 5km Road Race Championships held at Cardiff, where the club had 15 finishers. Congratulations to all our runners, our top five men and women were:

Men 6th Dewi Griffiths 14.31; 29th Matthew Rees 15.16; 99th Matthew Richards 16.45; 105th Tom Attwood 15.53 and 126th Steven Taylor 17.23.

Women: 194th Llinos Jones 19.06; Megan Clements 19.23; Jessica Smith 19.47; Sharon Leech 20.07 and Nina Brocklebank 21.28. Click here for the full results.

Sunday 29th August was also the Severn Bridge Half Marathon & 10km races at Chepstow, we had two runners present one in each race: SM Damien Grinter finished 109th in 49.52 over the 10km race & W45 Tina Gabb finished 53rd in the womens race in a time of 1.58.11 a lifetime best, congratulations to them both!
