Results Round Up

This week we have results to round up for you from Cardiff x 3, Newport & Cornwall.

Saturday 24th January was the Welsh Clubs Cross Country Championships at a very wet and windy Llandaf Fields Cardiff, the day proved to be another successful championships with over 100 athletes from the club entered with many individual and team medals won. Thanks to all the team managers who do an enormous amount of behind the scenes administration to get the athletes there, and to Brian and Kay Fox for taking the club tent as well as having the pleasure of cleaning it afterwards! Here’s a summary of how all our teams got on plus any medals won for you:

U11G the athletes ran under school names, so hopefully after scrawling down the list we have our top 4 girls correct, first home in 7th was Mollie Shelmerdine, followed by  21st Mara Beaman-Tucker, 50th Aimee McGlashan and 69th Isabelle Malough.

U11B our 4 boys home were 51st Carter Ray-Harris, 60th Keegan Beale, 85th James King and 86th Majd Husein.

U13G team were 4th with the quartet of 4th Molly-Mae McQueen, 13th Emily Evans-Williams, 27th Elsie Davies and 28th Ruby Harvey-Flinn.

U13B placed 6th with 11th Tomi Jones, 34th Jack Collins, 40th Jacka Ray O’Callaghan and 47th Max Hobson.

U15G came away with team SILVER courtesy of 4th Isabelle Lawley, 16th Lyla Jonsson, 18th Gwenna Rees and 20th Zoe Thompson. Individually Aimee Porter had a superb run to win individual SILVER which was great to see, however as she’s a second claim athletes the rules don’t allow her to score for the team.

U15B matched the U15G with team SILVER as well as an individual SILVER for Jack Griffiths, who was followed home by 21st Isaac Mcadie, 31st Sean Mu and 35th William Davies.

U17W & U20W came away with two team medals it was GOLD for the A team trio of Holly Humphreys who also won individual SILVER in the U17W, 5th Millie Pierce and 11th Ava Davies. The B team won team BRONZE with 17th Katie Evans, 18th Sophie Hartley-Green and 28th Imogen Mcadie.

U17W & U20M placed 4th with 9th Osian Morgan, 13th Joshua Sanders, 22nd Jack Sullivan and 28th Evan Price.

SW had a fantastic result to comfortably win team GOLD with the quartet of 5th Darcie Bass, 8th Niamh McDonald, 19th Ashleigh Willis and 21st Megan Williams.

SM had a great run for team BRONZE with the super six of Dafydd Jones who led the team home with a fine individual SILVER in the process, followed home by 17th Morgan James, 19th Daniel Rothwell, 22nd Matthew Rees, 25th Ed Slaughter and 26th Joshua Griffiths.

In the masters categories integrated into the senior races MW35+ saw individual GOLD for Joanna Callan. MW40+ won team SILVER plus and individual SILVER for Maria Kowal with 4th Michelle Cole and 5th Lois Woodward. MM55+ saw the trio of 4th Geoff Robinson, 5th Heath Brett and 7th Bernard Murphy pick up a team SILVER.

Saturday 24th January was the British Masters Indoor Athletics Pentathlon and 3000m Championships incorporating some masters open events at Cardiff. In action for the club were M60 Robin Wood had a very busy day recording a 8.69m Triple Jump, 9.04 60m, 34.27 200m, 9.88m Shot, and 3.97m Long Jump, M45 Christopher Jenkins 7.82 60m, M40 Steven Taylor ran a 10.05.81 3000m, W40 Bethan Froome finished in 2.41.05 for 800m, M35 Daniel Williams jumped a 1.65m High Jump, well done to all four showing how track & field is still very much available to masters athletes and more should give it a go. Saturday 24th January Kristian Jones won the 50 mile race at the UTMB Arc of Attrition in Cornwall. A challenging point-to-point race from The Minack Theatre, Porthcurno to Porthtowan taking in 50 miles of the stunning and dramatic South West Coast Path. Kristian has represented Wales and Great Britain over a wide range of disciplines, led the field home in a winning time of 7 hrs 09.41, congratulations Kris!

Sunday 25th January was the Lliswery 8 Mile Road Race at Newport where M60 Paul Llewellyn placed 149th and 4th M60 in 54.20 and M70 Alan Davies was 156th and 1st M70 congratulations both!

Sunday 25th January was the Non Thomas U20 & Senior Indoor Athletics Open Meeting at Cardiff where there was yet another great turnout from the club. Our overall top performer in each age group and event were:

U20M Charlie Shuall 4.14m Pole Vault,

U20W Lyra Roberts 3.05m Pole Vault, Olivia Morgan 4.43.70 1500m,

SM Evan Cole 8.68 60m Hurdles, Eniola Adedotun 6.81 60m, Ryan Price 11.58m Triple Jump, Edward Davies 1.56.92 800m, Leigh Walker 4.04m Pole Vault,

SW Rebekah Pratt 2.50m Pole Vault & 10.05m Shot, Lauryn Davey 8.18 60m, Hannah Brier 38.14 300m and a Welsh All Comers Record, well done Hannah! Bethan Froome 68.99 400m,
