Results Round Up

This week we have results to round up for you from Armagh, Dubai, Sheffield, Swansea, Aberdare & Birmingham.

Thursday 12th February was the Armagh International 5km & 3km, with a reputation of one of the fastest races in the UK with teams invited from all over the UK up against some top class international competition. Swansea Harriers fielded both Men’s and Women’s teams. In the Men’s team 5km the club finished 10th overall with the quartet of 38th Jonathan Butler 14.13, 149th Morgan James 15.07, 155th Matthew Verran 15.14 and 198th Finley Hines 16.18. In the Women’s 3km the trio of 33rd Darcie Bass 30.38, 55th Niamh Mcdonald 10.15 and 72nd Sophia Harrison ran superbly to finish 5th overall, congratulations! Click here for the full results.

Friday 13th February para athlete James Ledger and his guide runner Greg Kelly finished second in the T11/12 race in Dubai, clocking a season’s best time of 11.87, congratulations James!

Friday 13th until Sunday 15th February were the British Universities Indoor Athletics Championships at Sheffield, we can find five of our U20 & U23 athletes amongst the results, sorry if we missed anyone!

Eniola Adedotun 60m won his heat in 6.86 making it all the way to final placing just outside the medals in 4th with 6.81, so close! Freddie Steele won his 60m heat in 6.96 and like William below, just missed out on the final & in the 200m he again got all the way to the semi final placing 5th in 23.06 after his fastest time in the heats of 22.75. William Hawker 60m won his heat in 6.94, just missed out by one place in qualifying for the final with a 6.95 for 4th. Evie Aitchison progressed to the 400m semi finals placing 5th, her best time came in her 400m with 58.99. Rebekah Pratt was in four events where she placed 7th in her 60m heat 8.80, 7th in her Pole Vault pool with 2.53m, 14th in her Long Jump pool with 3.93m & 12th in the Shot final with a best of 9.63m.

Saturday 14th February were the West Wales Indoor 60m 60m Hurdles & Shot Championships at home in Swansea, despite the clash with half term it was awesome to see over 100 entries from the club. The vast majority of entries were from the club therefore plenty of medals were won, well done to all those who took part setting plenty of seasonal and personal bests, many competing for the first time ever too.

Saturday 14th February were the Welsh Athletics Winter Long Throws of Javelin & Hammer & Discus Championships held at Aberdare. The first time this event has been held and fortunately the weather was kind. In the Discus SM Michael Jenkins came away with GOLD with a best of 55.96m, SM Harrison Walsh SILVER with 50.45m, and another GOLD from U16M Roman Jackson 32.44m, GOLD for U20W Efa Williams 28.44m,

The Hammer saw GOLD for U20M Ben Fenwick 39.70m and SILVER for U16M Roman Jackson 38.56m, SW Alice Gregory took GOLD with a best of 31.47m and another GOLD for U20W Efa Williams 27.50m.

Saturday 14th & Sunday 15th February were the UK Senior Indoor Athletics Championships at Birmingham incorporating the trials for the World Indoor Championships. On Day 1 Matilda Quick was 7th in her 60m Hurdles heat in 9.20, and on Day 2 Hannah Brier won a magnificent SILVER medal in the 200m final, after setting an all time Welsh Record in the 200m Semi Final of 23.25, very many congratulations both!
