Results Round Up

This week we have results to round up for you from Shaftesbury Barnet, Aberystwyth, Birmingham, Lee Valley, Tairgwaith, Bath, Barcelona Spain, Menai, Cwmbran, Pulford, Merthyr, Wilmslow, Reading and Forest of Dean.

Saturday 14th March Michael Jenkins set a meeting record for the Discus in the Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers throws fest at Hendon, London taking the win with a best of 55.21m congratulations Michael!

Saturday 14th March was the Nant Yr Arian Silver Trail Races 10km & Half Marathon near Aberystwyth. Held in picture perfect weather and views saw for Swansea Harriers entered and all four come away with medals, courtesy of another GOLD medal win for Joshua Griffiths in the Half Marathon crossing the line in 1.22.52 winning the Welsh Championships that were incorporated into the very tough race that included over 1700 feet of elevation on route, congratulations Josh! There was further success on the day in the Juniors with a GOLD for the Boys with Thomas Evans-Williams taking a win in 18.02, SILVER for Gwennan Gruffydd in the girls with a 20.00 and a BRONZE for Elise Davies in 20.56. Saturday 14th March was the Throws & Endurance Open at Birmingham where U23M Ed Slaughter ran a lifetime best of 15.11.22 for 5000m to finish 7th in his race, well done Ed!

Saturday 14th March was the Masters Indoor Inter Area Championships at Lee Valley, London. Swansea Harriers had two of it’s masters in action with M60 Robin Wood recording a 7.88m in the Shot for 5th & 4.21m Long Jump for 3rd, M70 Chris Pruski was 4th in the High Jump with 0.93m, 2nd in the Shot with 8.14m and 5th in the Long Jump with 2.50m, helping the Men’s team to 5th on the day. In the Women W40 Bethan Froome was our sole competitor for Wales taking a win in the 400m with 67.98 and 3rd in the 800m with a 2.41.71 well done all!

Sunday 15th March was the 5th and final round of the  West Glamorgan Cross Country League at Ammanford Trotting Track in Tairgwaith, held in yet more muddy, wet and windy weather it was a day of two tales. The Men’s team won the league with Marc Hobbs taking the victory in 26.31 over the multi terrain route, he was followed home by 14th Patrick Tudor, 20th Paul Flynn, 45th Anthony Jones and 70th Rabab Rabab making our scoring five. Thank you to all the team who have represented the club in any of the five matches, your support was much appreciated. Sadly the Women’s team were the opposite end of their Division 1 getting relegated, nevertheless the silver lining is that if we can have a bigger turnout next year promotion is very much a possibility. Sunday 15th March was the Bath Half Marathon where amongst the thousands of finishers, first home in 81st was Chris Booth in 1.14.22, followed home by 202nd Alfie Robinson 1.19.37, 363rd Steven Taylor 1.23.45, 1907th Richard Davies 1.41.27 and 1233rd Isabelle David 1.55.05. Well done everyone!

Sunday 15th March in his Marathon debut in Barcelona, Spain Elliot Lawrence runs a fast 2.31.35 for 160th place, well don Elliot!

Saturday 21st March was the Schools International Cross Country for U15 & U17 at the Faenol Estate, Bangor V England V Ireland V Scotland Schools. Over a tough course in hot weather we had 3 athletes have the honour of representing Welsh Schools with U15B Oliver Cobbold having a great run for 17th and helping his team win SILVER! U17W Isabelle Lawley placed 29th and won team BRONZE, and U17M Osian Morgan was 26th, very well done to all three on what will hopefully be many more international vests to come! Also incorporated into the International was the British Masters Championships where someone with a few more Welsh Vests over the decades had a fantastic win in the combined M65+ and Women’s 6km, congratulations to Ifan Lloyd on his GOLD medal run.

Sunday 22nd March at Cwmbran Leisure Centre was the Welsh Sports Hall athletics Finals, with no volunteers to organise and Afan Nedd Tawe team this year, we had just the two athletes in action both competing for the Dyfed Schools teams, U13G Freya Cleverley did the Obstacle Relay, Shot and 6 Lap race the U15G Lucy Li competed in the 2 Lap Race, 4 x 2 Lap Relay, Standing Long Jump & Speed Bounce helping their teams to 3rd on the day, well done girls! (With no offers to date to be team manager for our U12B track & field team to date, lets hope they don’t suffer the same fate of the Afan Nedd Tawe SportsHall team).

Sunday 22nd March at the Pulford 10km Connor Rogers runs an excellent 30.23 for 10th and Lucy Richards runs a 41.09 to finish in 14th, well done both!

Sunday 22nd March at the Merthyr Half Marathon M50 Charles Walsh runs a 1.27.24 to place 16th overall, well done Charles!

Sunday 22nd March Joshua Griffiths has yet another fantastic run to place 2nd in the Wilmslow Half Marathon crossing the line in 1.05.04 and 10 minutes later Joshua Morgan followed him home in 8th in a time of 1.15.17, well done both!

Sunday 22nd March Geraint Williams has a very good run at the Reading Half Marathon placing 21st in a time of 1.11.47, well done Geraint!

Sunday 22nd March Mike Gleeson places 86th in 1.31.24 in the Forest of Dean trail Half Marathon followed home by Megan Williams who placed 12th in the Women in 1.34.23, well done both!
