Results Round Up

This week we have results to wrap up from Ostrava Czech Republic, Aberavon, Vari Greece, Manchester, Windsor & Street; and volunteers thanks.

Tuesday 31st May SM Jonathan Hopkins runs a 8.42.75 for the 3000m Steeplechase in the Ostrava Golden Spike – World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze in Ostrava, Czech Republic, well done Jonathan!

Wednesday 1st June was the Run4All Neath 5K road race at Aberavon where our top three Men and Women home were:

Men: Finley Hines in a fantastic 1st 15.30; 5th Matthew Harvey 16.44 and 6th Daniel Otteson 17.09. Women: 6th Diane Brownhill 21.21; 10th Nina Brocklebank 22.03 and 14th Kelly Gipson 23.34. Well done to all six and everyone else who represented the club, click here for the full results.

Thursday 2nd June SM Joseph Brier was one quarter of the Great Britain 4 x 400m relay who ran a time of 3.03.71 to win the Dromia International Sprint and Relays Meeting in Vari, Greece. Any International team wishing to make top 16 qualifiers for the World Athletics Championships this summer in Eugene USA currently requires a qualifying time 3:02.50, so they are very close!

Friday 3rd June in Sport City Manchester SW Verity Ockenden has a great run over 5000m placing 5th in 15.31.85 against a top class field in the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, well done Verity!

Saturday 4th June was round 2 of 4 in the Senior Men & Women National Athletics League at Windsor. After an overnight stay on route to what was the main event in London that weekend, the team managers did a great job at pulling an almost complete team together on a long bank holiday. Our thanks again to the entire squad showing great team spirit as always competing in several events each, who after a great days athletics helped the team to a very commendable 6th place on the day, in this tough league of the best track & field club teams in the UK. The team currently lie 9th out of 16 teams in the league table. Individual highlights included top 3 placings in the A string events for:

Men: 2nd Thomas Walley 4.70m Pole Vault; 2nd Matthew Richards 9.45.10 3000m Steeplechase; 3rd Patrick Swan 16.35m Shot;

Women: 2nd Emily Thomas 5.88m Long Jump; 1st Caryl Granville 60.22 400m Hurdles & 2nd 14.64 100m Hurdles; 1st Kate Roberts 10.05.72 3000m; 2nd Carys Jones 3.81m Pole Vault; 3rd Sian Vico, Tiffany Rees, Cerys Vico, Caryl Granville 4.02.64 4 x 400m.

Saturday 4th June at the British Milers club match at Street, Somerset, U15G Libby Hale runs 4.39.96 for 1500m and U17W Mai Davies 5.18.65 for 1500m, well done both!

1st to 7th June was volunteers week, we are lucky and so very grateful to have so many volunteers behind the scenes in the club. Two of our many key volunteers Emma Spacey & Catherine Collins who were at Windsor on the weekend too, were interviewed and profiled here by Welsh Athletics!
