Results Round Up

This week we have results to round up for you from Glynneath, Mountain Ash, Cardiff & Manchester.

Monday 26th December was the annual Glynneath Boxing Day 5 Mile Road Race. Where in the Men’s race first home was Ben Mitchell in an excellent 5th spot 25.37 followed across the line by 8th Daniel Otteson 27.15; 12th Patrick Jones 28.36; 18th Ifan Lloyd 29.50; 32nd Simon Coombes 31.47; 164th Christopher Jones 42.50 and 189th Tony Clements 45.41.

The main highlight of the day was a win for Megan Carter-Davies in the Women’s race finishing in a quick time of 28.01, Megan was followed home by Megan Clements placing a excellent 4th in 31.46 and Vanessa Harrigan in 39.27. Well done to everyone who ran.

Saturday 31st December was the return after an absence of almost 3 years due to Covid 19 the annual Nos Galan Road Races at Mountain Ash. The races are run over a 5km distance, in the Elite Men’s race first home was 6th Dafydd Jay in 15.33, followed home by 11th Daniel Otteson 16.14; 90th Owen Davies 20.18 and 93rd Joshua Morgan 20.40. In the Elite Women’s race first home was 14th Llinos Jones in a time of 30.31 and our only other runner followed home by 24th Iona Evans 22.09, well done everyone!

Sunday 8th January at the Manchester Open, SM Ben Paris runs a 22.51 for 200m, well done Ben!

Sunday 8th January was the Welsh Athletics U13, U15 & U17 Indoor Athletics open meeting at Cardiff incorporating the West Wales Championships for the 800m & 1500m, where it was great to see so many of our juniors in action, gaining invaluable competition experience. Highlights included our West Wales medal winners and overall top performer in each age group and event discipline as follows:

U17M: Charlie Shuall (3.35m) Pole Vault; Steffan Higgins (2.10.95) 800m & West Wales SILVER! Luca Cianci (7.85) 60m and Oliver Philpott (5.56m) Long Jump.

U17W: Ava Davies (5.05.94) 1500m & West Wales GOLD! Bethan Holley (9.87) 60m Hurdles & 4.86m Long Jump; Natalie Coughlan (2.54.18) 800m & West Wales SILVER and Amy Beynon (3.05m) Pole Vault.

U15B: Tyler Davies (2.75m) Pole Vault; Sean Strevens (10.33) 60m Hurdles; Matthew Hines (4.29m) Long Jump & (2.47.88) 800m & West Wales GOLD! and Callum Hedges (8.34) 60m.

U15G: Libby Hale (4.38.85) 1500m & West Wales GOLD! Millie Pierce (5.08.10) 1500m & West Wales BRONZE! Eva Carver (10.77) 60m Hurdles & (7.96m) Shot; Tabitha Ventress-Brett (3.00.25) 800m & West Wales SILVER! Ruby Campion (1.95m) Pole Vault and Martha Caldwell (8.86) 60m.

U13B: Oliver Hale (5.23.33) 1500m & West Wales SILVER! Jack Jones (12.24) 60m Hurdles & (3.26m) Long Jump and Ellis Bennett (2.59.19) 800m & (9.75) 60m.

U13G: Taylor Shelmerdine (5.30.57) & West Wales GOLD! Freya Birt (11.05) 60m Hurdles; Mia Rabaiotti (3.17.28) 800m & West Wales BRONZE! Leah-Jaye Sharp (5.18m) Shot and Alice Caldwell (9.57) 60m.
