Weekly Update Friday 20th November

This week we have for you some more coach/athlete/parent development opportunities, Welsh national award nominations, new inter school virtual competitions for sportshall athletics & cross country, and a new page on the club website outlining a brief the history of the club since is founding in 1962, primarily composed by club president Barrie Owen one of the founding members and still to this day an active club trustee/committee member. Congratulations to Dewi Griffiths who has been retained on the British Athletics Olympic Podium Potential funding programme for 2021.

Coach & Athlete Development Opportunities:

There are plenty of online resources and opportunities for coaches, athletes and parents to develop their knowledge of their preferred event disciplines as well as physical preparation, behavioural tips and lifestyle advice. Once a week you should check the links below to check for new content. Don’t worry if you can’t attend any of the events live as the vast majority of them can be viewed online a week or two later, the relevant links for which are below too.

Welsh Athletics Annual Awards:

The 2020 Welsh Athletics Awards present a unique opportunity for the sport to honour and reward the great work of Clubs, Groups, Coaches, Leaders, Officials, Volunteers and Athletes across Wales at all levels. Nominations for the Awards are now open! If there is a section in the club, Group, Coach, Leader, Official or Volunteer that you feel deserves to be recognised then please nominate now. Nominations close at midnight on 29th November with all nominations submitted electronically, the 2020 Nomination Form can be found here.

Club membership renewals:

Don’t forget to train on the indoor or outdoor tracks on club nights you must have renewed your annual membership 2020-2021 Membership Application for New Members & Renewals

Competitions Virtual and Actual:

You should periodically check the club website annual fixture page which is regularly updated as and when details of events are found. There are a number of opportunities to participate in some virtual events before Christmas, now available to enter, and we have our fingers and toes crossed for some small scale outdoor pilot events in the very near future. Specifically there are two fantastic inter schools events for sportshall athletics and cross country, click the link above for full details and ask your PE teacher of your school can take part.
