Weekly Updates Saturday 1st August

This is a very important weekly update, please ensure you read it in full, especially the final covid plan

The outdoor athletics track will re open on Monday 3rd August. The track will operate with much-reduced opening hours and user capacity for the month of August. We are not expecting the indoor track to be available for many weeks. In addition, there will be numerous strict hygiene and social distancing measures that all club members must adhere to which are detailed in the Swansea Harriers Final Covid Plan. The Club and Swansea University track staff are still and have been working extremely hard in the background to ensure we are providing a safe environment for our coaches and athletes upon their return to the club. Please ensure you very carefully read all of the following information as it is extremely important for the welfare and safety of our coaches and athletes moving forward. We as a club now have an even greater responsibility in not just keeping ourselves safe and healthy but also ensuring the wellbeing of our fellow members SWANSEA HARRIES FINAL COVID PLAN AT 29.07.20.pdf Note we need another two or three assistant covid officers to patrol the track once or more a week 5pm to 8.30pm, if you can help us out please get in touch.
For the first week commencing 3rd August 2020 the maximum ratio will be two athletes to each qualified coach. This is to ensure that all of our qualified club coaches have access to the track, and in partnership with Swansea University to test the new usage procedures before week two when they open up the track to other users that safe practice can be maintained. Due to the very restricted capacity the Club committee has determined that Club Sessions are only available for qualified UKA coaches and exclusive to Swansea Harriers members only. All athletes attending must have renewed their membership for 2020, print a membership form here 2020-2021 Membership Application for New Members & Renewals.pdf
Athletes must only attend a club session upon direct invitation from their coach and must confirm their attendance not less than 24 hours before the session is due to commence.  This is to ensure that the limited track allocation of users is used to its fullest extent. Unfortunately coaches will have some tough decisions on who to coach, as coaching ratios are very low initially. Social distancing means Swansea Harriers and Swansea University cannot permit just turning up, as we will exceed the maximum track capacity.
And finally our thanks to the clubs covid sub committee who have worked so hard to pull all this information together, and to all our fantastic coaches in their behind the scenes preparation of registers and risk assessments, we are very grateful for all their efforts. An incredible amount of additional responsibility has fallen onto the club, our apologies for the very long read of the covid plan, it is all essential information as the club starts the long road back to its full recovery, make sure you do read it please. Best wishes to you all, and we look forward to seeing a handful of you at the track next week. And the forecast is rain – TYPICAL!
