George Williams Passing & Funeral

It is with great sadness that the Club announces the passing of one of the many volunteers who have helped Swansea Harriers achieve the status it has within our sport.

George came into Athletics, as did many others, through one of his children becoming an active participant. Daughter Georgina took up the sport in the early 1970’s at the old University Cinder Track and he was enormously proud of her achievements especially when she went on to gain age group recognition representing Wales in the SIAB Schools International over 800m.

During those times through to the early 1980’s George took an active role in helping coach the younger age groups where some of his legendary “Continuous Relays” were enthusiastically received by athletes developing a high degree of fitness in the process. His support of the club over many years was much appreciated by Officers and Members.

George was also very supportive of the West Glamorgan Primary Schools Athletics Competitions. (both indoor and outdoor) and could always be relied on to be there at every match to judge the shot event.

Besides his work with the Harriers George was a highly knowledgeable and respected member of the Allotment Society based alongside the Tennis Centre and Track. He was a wealth of information and was always willing to give advice and pass on some of the fine samples of his produce.

George passed away on the 22nd May aged 92 at his home in the Sandfields after recently spending a short period in Hospital.

The Club would like to extend its condolences to the family at this time.

The Funeral will take place on the 8thJune but due to the current restrictions numbers are limited and by invitation only. Donations are being made to Wales Air Ambulance, c/o St James Funeral Home, 31 St James Gardens, SA1 6DT
