Results Round Up
This week we have results to round up for you from Birmingham, Nuneaton, Neath, Exeter, Cardiff, Uddevalla Sweden, Manchester and Newport.
Saturday 22nd June was the Birchfield Games at Birmingham where SM Karl Williams ran a 11.43 for the 100m and in what was the main highlight of the meeting U20M Lewie Jones threw the 700g Javelin out to 66.92m this massive throw played a key part in the fantastic news of Lewie being named in the Great Britain & Northern Ireland team to compete in the European U18 Championships which are being held in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia between 18th and 21st July 2024. Very many congratulations Lewie on this magnificent and rare achievement, the very best of luck from everyone at the club and we look forward to seeing how you get on!
Sunday 23rd June was the Midlands Masters Athletics Championships at Nuneaton where M65 Roderick Davies placed 3rd in the 100m 14.85 and 4th in the 200m 31.0 and W75 Daphne Marler jumps 1.60m in the Long Jump, well done both!
Monday 24th and Wednesday 26th June were the Afan Nedd Tawe Secondary Schools U14 & U16 Cup matches at Neath. The top two teams in each age group and gender, rather than best individuals progress through to the Welsh Schools Athletics Association Cup & Plate finals at Brecon on Wednesday 10th July. Tuesday 25th June at the British Milers Club in Exeter U20W Hollie Lewis runs a 4.53.22 1500m and U17W Millie Gold a 4.31.23 also for 1500m and personal bests for both, well done!
Wednesday 26th June was the SSAFA Cardiff 5K 2024 Series Race 2 over a flat fast course our first five Men home were, Joshua Griffiths took the race victory in 14.30 with Jonathan Butler also comfortably breaking 15 minutes to come home in 2nd in 14.39, Matthew Verran was 5th in 15.12, Paul Tobin 7th in 15.18 and Blair McWhirter 11th in 15.37. In the Women’s race we had just the three runners with Gemma Tutton having a great run to finish 2nd in a fast time of 17.26, Kate Roberts just missed out on a podium place in 4th with 17.53 and Kristy Smith was 13th in 19.52, well done all, click here for the full results.
Friday 28th June U20W Hannah Kinane runs a 4.24.73 for 1500m in Uddevalla, Sweden, congratulations Hannah!
Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th June was the British Senior Athletics Championships incorporating the trials for the Olympic Games in Manchester. It was awesome to see four Swansea Harriers mixing it with the very best athletes in the UK. SM Joseph Brier just missed out on the 400m final by the narrowest of margins placing 2nd in his heat in 46.72. SW Hannah Brier placed 4th in her 400m in 53.08, SM Jack Houghton placed 6th in his 400m Hurdles heat in 55.48 and then in the Womens 5000m in a thrilling race SW Verity Ockenden came home to win SILVER in a dip finish to cross the line in 15.13.78 and is currently ranked 6th in the UK, congratulations all on such magnificent performances!
Sunday 30th June was the 3rd and final round of the U17 & U20 Youth Development League at Newport. Once again fantastic team spirit was shown by all athletes and volunteers to place 2nd on the day and end the season in third in the league, well done everyone!
