Results Round Up

This week we have results to round up for you from Carmarthen, Cardiff, Swansea, Manchester, Gothenburg Sweden & Cheltenham, including a new club record, an all time Welsh record and two athletes selected for the World Athletics Championships!

Very many congratulations to Joseph Brier who has been selected for the mixed 4 x 400m for Great Britain & Northern Ireland in the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon joining our other super star Joshua Griffiths who was selected in the Marathon a few weeks ago! Our Hall of Fame is going to be bursting at the seams come the end of the season with these two being added to the four selected for the Commonwealth Games, one of which was Joe, the others being his sister Hannah Brier, Dewi Griffiths and Jonathan Hopkins!! Will anyone be selected for the European Championships we wonder?

Wednesday 22nd June was the Welsh Athletics Open Meeting at Carmarthen where we had seven athletes in action well done to Tiffany Rees 2.18.81 800m; U20W Ella Davies 2.24.21 800m; U17W Mai Davies 5.13.06 1500m; SW Shannon Thomas 17.03.44 3000m Walk; U17W Amy Beynon 2.90m Pole Vault; M65 Roderick Davies 3.92m Long Jump and W75 Daphne Marler 1.85 Long Jump.

Wednesday 22nd June in the SAFFA 5km in Cardiff nine Swansea Harriers competed with our top three men and women home were as follows: Men: 3rd Jonathan Butler 14.40; 11th Matthew Verran 16.04 & 25th Steven Taylor 16.54. Women: 33rd Kate Roberts 17.18; 41st Rachel Davies 17.44 & 62ng Gemma Tutton 18.45. Well done to all those who took part, click here for the full results.

Thursday 23rd June was the Afan Nedd Tawe Schools U14 & U16 Cup Match at Swansea in an extremely well attended match with over 400 pupils from over 20 schools participating, it was a clean sweep for YG Gwyr who won all four sections who will be joined by Bishopston & Olchfa progressing two teams each to the plate finals at Aberdare on Wednesday 6th July. Click here for the full results and team scores from Thursday 23rd June 23.06.22 ANT U14 & U16 CUP RESULTS the Afan Nedd Tawe Schools would like to pass on their thanks to all the teachers and volunteers who made the day possible on what was one the biggest turnouts ever for a cup match. It was great to see some of our year 11, 12 & 13 pupils/athletes assisting with the organisation of the day too: Lucy Harris on scores and results, Chloe Jones field judging, Evan Cole track judging, Joseph Beresford track judging , Thomas Payne & Owain Clarke both starter/marksman.

Friday 24th May to Sunday 26th June were the British Senior Championships incorporating the trials for the World Athletics Championships held at Manchester which saw our very own Hannah Brier became the fastest Welsh woman of all time after running a personal best in her women’s 100m heat in a time of 11.33, beating her previous best of 11.39, congratulations Hannah! In the final Hannah placed 8th in a time of 11.40. Our other super star senior members present competing against the very best athletes that the UK has to offer were: Joseph Brier who after winning his heat narrowly missed out on a medal in the final running 46.34 to finish in 4th; SW Olivia Caesar was 5th in her 400m heat in 55.91; SW Verity Ockenden had a great run for 5th in the 5000m final in 15.42.02 and SM Jonathan Hopkins was 6th in the 3000m Steeplechase in 8.45.38.

Sunday 26th June sees U17W Hannah Kinane have a superb run to break the club record for 800m recording a time of 2.10.06 in Gothenburg, Sweden, very many congratulations Hannah!

Sunday 26th June saw the 3rd round of the U17 & U20 Youth Development League held at Cheltenham where in a very closely fought league, the team had a great result to finish 4th on the day, and by the skin of their teeth place 3rd in the final league table, to secure their place in the Premier Division for next year and progress to the regional final at Yate on Sunday 7th August!! Very many congratulations to all those U17 & U20 who were out supporting the club as well as to our coaches, officials and team managers, a real squad effort! U20M Dylan Morgan 10.8 100m & 22.2 200m; U20W Tiffany Rees 2.23.4 800m; U20M Joseph Beresford 59.2 400m Hurdles; U20M 4.06.4 4 x 400m Jacob Dowling, Joseph Beresford, Evan Cole & Ben Sullivan; U17M Harry Newton 3.95m Pole Vault; U20W Millie Carter 3.05m Pole Vault; U17M Lewie Jones 13.21m Shot and U17W Lucy Harris 35.18m Discus.
