Swansea Harriers is a competitive club and we welcome new members, you don’t need to have any experience just an enthusiasm to learn. Anyone who is interested and is prepared to compete for the club when selected is welcome as a member. Swansea Harriers are based at Swansea University Athletics Centre, Swansea Click here for directions. The club’s individual and collective achievements are far too many to list. We have produced many Great Britain and Welsh International Athletes in all age groups from Junior to Senior and won numerous Welsh and British titles. We compete in the highest possible leagues in the UK.

Every member is expected to compete for the club in competition appropriate to their ability. We do not have the resources and are unable to accept members who join purely to get fit for other sports or training only. Every effort is made to ensure that new members are quickly integrated into the club. Emphasis is placed on enjoyment and participation.

Training sessions are held 7 days a week depending on age group, ability and event discipline. In addition there are several Junior Groups in Swansea Harriers. Initially all new junior starters are encouraged to attend one of the Development/Reception Groups: Swansea Harriers Primary Development groups for school years 5 and 6 train on Tuesdays or Thursdays at the Indoor Athletics Centre Swansea University. The session times are from 4.45pm to 6.15pm for athletes who are in school year 5 and above. The Comprehensive Development Group for school years 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11 trains Thursdays from 7.30pm to 9pm. All groups cover all athletics events and initially focus on skill development rather than fitness. More specific detail on the coaching athlete development pathway can be foiund here Swansea Harriers Athlete Development Pathway Version 5.pdf Members are expected to join and compete for Swansea Harriers when selected in competition appropriate to their ability. Training Subs must be paid on arrival at the Club Cafe where all athletes will have their hands stamped as proof of purchase. Athletes arriving without training subs will not be permitted to train. Subs must be paid before training sessions begin.

Satellite Sessions:

Athletes must be in school year 5 and above to join Swansea Harriers. However there are three satellite clubs linked to Swansea Harriers with partner organizations, that children can attend before progressing to the club. These sessions provide a grounding in all fundamental running, jumping and throwing activities, making the transition to Swansea Harriers much smoother:
Tuesdays 4pm to 5pm; or Fridays 4pm to 5pm; at Swansea University Indoor Track, SA2 9AU. School Year 4 only, fees are £40 for a 10 week term. All sessions are expertly delivered by our UK Athletics qualified athletics coaches. Over the 10 week period athletes will cover all run, jump and throw events. Wednesdays “Run Jump Throw” satellite club in partnership and at LC2 Swansea, SA1 3ST. For athletes in primary school aged 4 to 11 years old inclusive, is an established session that has been in place for 9 years! The times are 4.30pm to 5.30pm for 4 to 7 years olds and 5.30pm to 6.30pm for 8 to 11 year olds. Costs are £4 a session – booked as a course, to reserve a place phone the LC2 on 01792 466500. This course will follow the run, jump, throw curriculum: Week 1- Run; Week 2 – Jump; Week 3 – Throw; Week 4 – Run; Week 5 – Jump; Week 6 – Throw; Week 7&8 – Awards & challenges.
