Weekly Update Wednesday 26th August

This week we have another batch of non virtual performances rounded up for you, a UKA officials qualification and an important reminder of the covid 19 protocols that MUST be adhered to.

Wednesday 19th August saw SM David Greene make his season debut over the 400m Hurdles at Szekesfehervar, Hungray where he finished 4th in (51.06) the former word, European and Commonwealth Champion will be looking to break the 50 second barrier in his next few races.

Friday 21st August SW Verity Ockenden set a lifetime best of (8.56.72) over 3000m at Bromley. This performance was so quick it takes her to 51st on the British All Time Ranking for 3000m, well done Verity! Last week Verity was also interviewed on her athletics career by Swansea University which you can read here. It has been great to see our high profile senior athletes being recognised for the achievements.  Elinor Kirk who has been a member of the club since she was an U13G was interviewed by Dai Sport on her next challenge, combining a new career as a junior doctor with qualification for her third Commonwealth Games. Saturday 22nd August SW Risqat Fabunmi-Alade ran a quick (11.83) over 100m into a headwind at Tooting Bec, London!

Saturday 22nd August was Welsh Athletics third pilot track & field event at Aberdare. This time it was the U15 & U17 age groups in action for a throws only fixture. The club was well represented with seven of our juniors participating. In the hammer U17W Emily Collins threw (34.05m). In the Discus U15G Lucy Harris threw (27.67m) and U15G Katie Lake (21.52m). We had three Javelin throwers with U17M George Snaith throwing (43.30m); U17W Chloe Jones (35.15m) and U15G Rebekah Pratt (20.88m). In the final event of Shot was U15B Macsen Holland achieving a distance of (12.38m). Well done to them all on their first and hopefully not last competitive outing on the field this season.

Sunday 23rd August SM Joseph Brier improved his lifetime best for the second weekend in a row, crossing the line in (46.38) in the 400m at Nuneaton, climbing one more place up the Welsh All Time ranking list to 7th, well done Joseph! Also present was U20M Steffan Jones who set another 400m lifetime best of (48.01) and an over the legal wind limit (21.80) 200m, well done Steffan!

Sunday 23rd August was Welsh Athletics fourth pilot track & field event at home in Swansea. This time we were on track with the 100m, 200m & 800m for the U15 & U17 age groups with five Swansea Harriers in action. In the 100m U17M Dylan Morgan ran (11.78) and U17M Josh Kenny (12.73); in the 200m we had no starters; and in the 800m U17M Aled Tumelty ran a time of (2.14.56) followed by U15G Mai Davies (2.37.77) and Bethan Adams (2.54.44). Well done to them all on their first and hopefully not last competitive outing on track this season.

Sunday 23rd August U17M Owain Clarke ran a time of (60.08) for the 400m Hurdles in Yate.

 

Officials:

It has been great to see our officials making themselves available for the pilot track & field events for the athletes. We are always looking for more officials to be part of the Swansea Harriers officials team, helping the club fulfill our officiating duties at home and away fixtures. There is an online Starter / Starter Assistant qualification being held on the 27th August. The course is free to attend, book here.

Covid-19:

The covid 19 plan remains unchanged, this plan MUST be read in full before any athletes recommence training. SWANSEA HARRIES FINAL COVID PLAN AT 29.07.20 Until track capacity increases from the current 30, so the club can try to cater for as many of our existing club members, both the 5pm and 6.30pm* sessions continue to remain restricted to paid up Swansea Harriers club members only, this is only a temporary arrangement until track capacity is increased. All sessions must be pre booked with your coach, you cannot just turn up. *excluding Mondays at 6.30pm where coaches can coach who they choose within the set ratios.

Swansea University have now moved their booking system online for all other users. Bookable time slots have been expanded again and are now Monday to Thursdays inclusive 2pm to 3.15pm and 3.30pm to 4.45pm also Saturdays 9.30am to 11.30am. To book and pre pay click here.

All athletes being coached on or off track should have renewed their annual subs, as per the covid plan and for their personal insurance 2020-2021 Membership Application for New Members & Renewals
