Welsh Inter Regional Cross Country Championships @ Newtown

The Welsh Inter Regional Championships on Saturday 21st November 2026 at Dolerw Park, Newtown.
To represent West Wales at Newtown athletes must have one of the following qualifications:
A: – BIRTH; the athlete having been born in West Wales (Dyfed or West Glamorgan).
B: – RESIDENCE; a minimum of 9 months continuous residence in West Wales immediately prior to this event.
C:- RETENTION: athletes who have competed for West Wales at senior level and gone through the eligibility system but have moved out of West Wales.
Round 1 of selections will close 5pm Saturday 31st October. The top 13 West Wales eligible finishers at Pembrey Country Park from Saturday 10th October in round 1 of 5 in the John Collins Cross Country League will be selected for West Wales at Newtown in all age groups from U14 to M55+ age groups. M65+ athletes selection will be the first 4 finishers at Pembrey Country Park. Athletes outside of automatic selection spots or for those who were unable to run at Pembrey Country Park will be considered for selection too by emailing the team managers. Don’t forget to include the athletes name, club, date of birth and seven digit Welsh Athletics URN. Equally as important is that if you are unable to run, to also advise the team managers so reserves can be called upon as and when required.
Round 2 of selections to fill any team vacancies will commence Sunday 1st November.
At Newtown we will require a team of parents/guardians to undertake team managing duties on the day for an age group or two each please. If you can offer your assistance email [email protected] all paperwork relating to declarations will have been completed before the day for you. On the day you will just need to hand out numbers, pins, vests and get them all to the start line for team photos just before each race gets underway.
Inter Regional Teams:
  • U14, U16 & U18: 15 team members with 8 to score
  • U20: 15 team members with 4 to score
  • Seniors: 15 team members and 8 to score
  • Masters: 35, 45, 55: 15 team members per age group and 5 to score. 65+: 5 team members and 3 to score

Primary Races:

  • At Newtown there will also be non championship, open to anyone primary races organised by the URDD rather than Welsh Athletics incorporated into the Championships. These races are for pupils in school year 3 to 6, entries are made by the parents themselves rather than by selection as for the other age groups, which can be done on this link.
